Micah Welsh, Handbuilt
Micah Welsh purchased his first motorcycle in 2013. When he took it to a local shop he was highly disappointed to learn that the necessary repairs would cost more than what he paid for the entire bike. On his budget, fixing it and changing it cosmetically seemed completely out of the question. When all hope seemed lost, a friend showed up with a bike he’d built himself from recycled materials, inspiring Welsh to take matters into his own hands. Eventually he did get that initial motorcycle running and looking pretty good by fabricating and creatively up-cycling individual parts. From that point on, he was hooked. —-
He admits that budget constraints led him to a lot of creativity, and the fact that he is self-taught has made him stretch to learn new skills to match his abilities to his vision for the build. He builds every bike for himself with the mindset that it is something he wants to keep and ride long-term. When others want to buy any of his builds, he finds it very gratifying.
Welsh loves the creative experience of being able to reimagine and redesign bikes as he sees them, turning them into a functioning piece of art that is one-of-a-kind.
